Three key appointments for firm investing in growth

Three key appointments have been made as part of an expansion strategy at a West Midlands Law Firm.

Employing 200 people across seven offices in Worcestershire and the Black Country, Talbots have newly employed their Head of Trust and Estates and Head of Litigation, recruiting solicitors Ian Bond and Jagdip Bains respectively.

With over 35 years of specialist experience, the high-profile pair will drive the commitment of the firm to deliver legal services tailored to the client rather than simply meeting the needs of the lawyer.

Bringing insolvency expertise to the firm is Claire Cooper – the third key appointment. Due to be working in the commercial property department, she shares the enthusiasm of Ian and Jagdip in driving the company’s growth.

Commenting on the new appointments was Chief Executive of Talbots, Mary Mocklow. She highlighted the benefits they will bring for the company in prioritising the needs of the client.

“We have a had a really strong start to the year and strengthening our senior management team and adding additional skills to the team is all part of our ambitious strategy for 2017.

“Ian, Jagdip and Claire share our passion for delivering legal services differently and have a desire to grow our business by putting the client first and delivering more joined up services across all departments.

“This means you can come to Talbots for the entire legal offer, from family issues and protecting your estate, to support with residential property changes, employment law and corporate issues.”

A member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, Ian Bond specialises in private client work including trust and estate administration as well as wills and wealth planning.

Having regularly given talks on prominent legal issues, Ian has been tasked with expanding the wills and probate offering of the firm, with an aim for it to meet the same standard as the residential conveyancing and family departments.

Commenting on his appointment, Ian stated: “I was attracted by the Talbots approach to law as it resonated with my own values.

“Our ethos is to provide professional, straightforward legal advice by approachable lawyers in a way our clients understand and can afford. It is not about trying to show off how much law we know, but about explaining how we can use our knowledge in a way that can benefit clients.”

Having acted in many complex cases, Jagdip Bains bringing extensive experience in guiding SMEs through commercial disputes.

Given mediation is her favoured form of alternative dispute resolution, Jagdip is keen to promote is as an effective way of maintaining business relationships and reducing client costs.

Among her specialisms are business property, construction disputes and commercial contract. She also has a wealth of insolvency dispute experience.

Commenting on the scope for growth in the company, Jagdip stated: “There are substantial opportunities for growing the commercial litigation team. Landlords and tenants are operating in a competitive market and the supply of commercial properties is slowly increasing, which means that lease renewal claims will be on the rise.

“This means landlords will be trying to maximise their income so dilapidation claims and break clause disputes will be on the rise too. At Talbots, we will look to work closely with both parties to deliver assured advice at an uncertain time in the market.”

Eager to support independent retailers through a consumer-friendly service, Claire Cooper expressed her excitement at the appointment.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining Talbots. The Black Country and Worcestershire has a wealth of industry and independent retailers who are trying to transform our high streets. I’m keen to support these businesses by offering them a one-stop service that can guide them through all their business and property needs.”
