Join in the Day of the Dead cultural celebrations

This year, Dying Matters will be holding their annual Day of the Dead celebrations on 3rd November at the Institute of Latin American Studies in the University of London.

Each year, the organisation invites their members and the wider community to join them and celebrate the lives of those who are no longer with us and provide an opportunity for mourning.

The Day of the Dead event is inspired by the Mexican Día de Muertos — translating to “Day of the Dead” Spanish, making this year’s location incredibly apt.

Starting from 1pm, attendees will join in with remembering those who have died, as well as looking into traditions carried out by various cultures when someone has died.

Throughout the afternoon, there will be a number of discussions led by experts from age-related organisations and businesses, including:

  • Professor Douglas Davies, Director Centre for Death and Life Studies and Professor in the Study of Religion at Durham University
  • Claire Henry MBE, Chief Executive of The National Council for Palliative Care (NCPC) and the Dying Matters Coalition
  • James Norris, CEO at DeadSocial

The day will conclude with a Mexican feast, with a selection of food and drink, as well as musical entertainment.

It’s set to be a great event and will certainly benefit those who work closely with the elderly or deal with issues surrounding ageing or death, including those from the wills and probate industry. It will give you an in-depth insight directly from experts and could help you to become more supportive when dealing with clients.
