Death abroad – Kenyan Bereavement Pack launched

A new bereavement pack has been launched to advise individuals upon the processes following a death of a friend or relative in Kenya

The advice forms part of the ‘Death Abroad’ publication section readily available on gov.uk, which aims to provide those who have lost a loved one overseas with detailed information which they often so crucially need.

Somebody’s death may be a traumatic experience and when taking place abroad, distress is likely to only increase. Communication difficulties and unfamiliarity with local procedures can mean processes following a death overseas can be even more unclear, with uncertainty surrounding the appropriate point of contact. Such information packs aim to curb these difficulties and reduce the level of upset involved as much as possible.

Gov.uk provides a general overview of procedural requirements following a death abroad such as registration with UK authorities, who needs to be informed of the death as well as the rules surrounding the return of the deceased to the UK. It also provides advice on how to cope with a death abroad, which includes practical information such as who to contact as well as the type of supportive help which could be available.

The Kenyan advice pack aims to provide a much more in-depth level of advice. The library of bereavement information on gov.uk is divided on a country specific level to ensure the advice available is tailored for those in need of the relevant material.

Losing a loved one abroad is likely to be an incredibly harrowing process and thus increasing the level of information which can allow the process to be simpler can only be to the benefit of those bereaved.
