Audit, tax and consulting firm expands its client legal services offering

UK audit, tax and consulting firm RSM has added a new service offering to its recently launched client legal services practice.

RSM Legal was established in April 2016 after the business gained a licence from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) to practise law. It currently offers employment, corporate, partnership and regulatory legal services.

The expansion of RSM’s legal practice has been made possible due to the appointment of Sophie St John as a private client partner.

Ms St John, who has been a private client solicitor for 20 years, joins RSM from Barclays Wealth and Investment Management. In her former role, she was lead counsel specialising in trust work. Before that, she worked in the private client divisions of Speechly Bircham, Allen & Overy and Bircham Dyson Bell.

In her new role, Ms St John will work closely with RSM’s private client practice which offers tax and wealth advice to individuals, trustees and estates.

Commenting on the appointment, Head of Client Legal Services at RSM, Carolyn Brown said: “We are incredibly fortunate to have secured Sophie’s talent. She is ideally suited to direct our private client legal services in a way that complements and enhances RSM’s existing private wealth expertise.”

RSM’s Head of Private Client Gary Heynes added: “RSM’s private client offering is already one of the largest tax advisory and compliance teams in the UK for individuals, trustees and estates. We are very pleased to extend our private client services through the recruitment of a private client legal partner to support our private client tax and wealth advice to our clients.”
