New will-writing website aims to challenge perceptions of death

A digital will-writing company has launched a rebrand designed to change the way people think about and deal with death.

Founded last year, Farewill is backed by the founders of Wonga and Zoopla, and aims to simplify the will writing process by prioritising the needs of the consumer.

Refreshingly bold and bright, the new design clearly supports this. Designed by the people who created Gumtree, the motivation behind the rebrand is to subvert the way writing a will makes people feel, changing any preconceptions that consumers may have.

Commenting on the rebrand was Head of design, Harry Copeman. Highlighting what the new website aims to portray, he stated: “As fewer people use family solicitors, the process of making a will has become more and more sterilised. We’ve got a product that makes writing it straightforward and which encourages our customers – our brand needed to support that as closely as possible.

“We want to be the leading brand in death and dying. Doing this means turning perceptions of the industry as it is at the moment on their heads: it meant building something that feels optimistic, and is a joy to use – despite the circumstances.”

Through the clever use of animated lines to illustrate the stage that they’ve reached, the new design helps to clarify the will-writing process to the customer. For example, when dealing with property, the lines transform into a house; when leaving an individual gift, a label.

The digital will-writer is Farewill’s first product, and the firm intends to move into other life and estate planning services, and expand outside of the UK.
