Will Aid to celebrate 30 years of changing lives with big push towards its best ever year

An initiative which raises money for charity whilst targeting the 51% of Britons who don’t have a will is hoping its 30th year will be the best ever – and is today urging more and more legal firms to sign up and pledge their time as it officially launches this year’s campaign.

Will Aid, which takes place every November, is a month-long drive. It sees legal firms across the county pledge a portion of their time to write basic wills, with clients donating their fee to a good cause.

The scheme, which does not have an age limit and is open to anyone who wants to write a will, takes place across the country and supports nine of the UK’s best-loved charities.

Will Aid has raised more than £20 million for charity since it launched 30 years ago.

James Tarleton, chair of Will Aid said: “We are very grateful to the solicitors and all those that used the scheme, for their generous contribution.

“The nine partner charities use donations and legacies from will makers to reach people in crisis, both here in the UK and all around the world.

“As well as providing the suggested donation, many people who make their wills through Will Aid, use this opportunity to provide support to their favourite charities through a gift in their wills.

“These legacies make a great difference and we are very thankful for those who choose to support our work in this way.

“Solicitors raised an incredible amount of money in 2017, but we need more if we are to satisfy demand.”

He said solicitors could not only raise money for charity but benefit from access to publicity, improving their visibility and introducing them to new clients.

“Help us celebrate 30 years since the launch of Will Aid by signing up and donating your time in 2018,” he said.

Will Aid started in 1988 and since then more than 300,000 people have made a will through the scheme and got the peace of mind that comes from protecting their loved ones for the future.

Charities supported through Will Aid include ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sightsavers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland).
