Today’s Spring Roundtable Contemplates Key Industry Topics

Today’s Spring Roundtable Contemplates Key Industry Topics

Following the continued success of our previous Today’s Wills and Probate roundtable events, our spring event kicked off today discussing sector issues, challenges, and potential opportunities.

The event was held at one of the UK’s oldest and fourth largest chambers, 3PB Barristers, in Birmingham where an array of Wills and Probate experts come together to contemplate key topics in the sector.

The roundtable started with welcome and introductions, followed by attendees confirming that the main factor which has made a big difference to firms in the last 12 months is focussing on consumer issues. Furthermore, recruitment, training, internal culture change, succession, and professional development are private client practitioners’ top priorities.

Following introductions, the first discussion of the day was about online Wills and the effect they have on the market which brought strong opinions from our attendees. After a quick comfort break, Arken.legal (UK) Ltd, a leader in software solutions for the legal industry, captivates the audience with an informative presentation on three easy steps to business efficiency and growth through digitisation.

Another discussion followed on Brexit, which has monopolised the media’s attention for a while detailing every aspect of the process, with experts considering the effect it will have on the Wills and probate industry.

The afternoon session will be led by Ian Bond, Chair of The Law Society’s ‘Wills and Equity Committee’ and Director and Head of Trusts and Estates at Talbots Law who has his finger on the pulse in regards to the highly controversial probate fees. He will bring everyone up to date and talk about what actions have been proposed due to the sector being left with uncertainty, without no indication of when exactly the proposed new probate fees changes will come into force.

The event will finish by asking professionals’ feedback on Today’s Wills and Probate and how the publication can support them and the sector as a whole.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be publishing further articles covering different aspects of what was discussed on the day. To make sure that you don’t miss an update, don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter.
