Rogue website warning from Pensions Regulator

The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has urged consumers to be aware of rogue pension websites.

Stating that several sites had been referred to the regulator, TPR warned that the suspected websites may be displaying anti-scam messages to fool consumers into parting with their money. The regulator even mentioned that some of the sites have copied some of the anti-scam material from “Project Bloom” – the pension scam task force.

Commenting on the emergence of the websites was Lesley Titcomb. The TPR’s chief executive stated: “These sites are wolves in sheep’s clothing, lying in wait for unsuspecting victims by portraying themselves as being beyond reproach.

“The truth is that this next generation of scam sites poses a real threat to people’s financial futures and should be avoided.”

In addition to demanding that these websites remove all material owned by TPR, the regulator will also decide whether additional action should be taken.

Titcomb concluded by praising the measures recently confirmed by the Government to protect savers from pension scams.

“We welcome the Government’s tough new measures, which will strike a significant blow to pension scammers who devastate people’s lives by duping them out of their life savings.”
