Plans To Bring In Retrospective Law To Legalise Video Wills

Thanks to the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent social distancing measures, video conferencing software was utilised to enable will writers and solicitors to virtually meet with clients to take instructions.

However, the legality of the wills which were eventually drawn up and ‘signed’ faced criticism, as they didn’t meet the archaic requirements needed.

To avert the chaos of endless legal challenges in the future, the Ministry of Justice is planning to bring in a law in September which will legalise all ‘video wills’ completed since 31st January 2020.
