Recent figures show Quarter 3 deaths down from 2016

Recent statistics show that Quarter 3 of 2017 saw a fall in the number of deaths in comparison to the correspondent period last year.

Released by the Office for National Statistics, the third quarterly mortality report revealed that there were 111,849 deaths between 1 July and 30 September 2017 – 383 fewer than in quarter 3 of 2016.

Looking slightly more broadly at the year-to-date, 373,199 deaths is the number of deaths recorded so far, exceeding the amount in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. This year’s total also surpassed the five-year average, with 15,086 more deaths in the first three quarters of the year than the average over the previous five years.
