Pensions Minister Re-Appointed

Guy Opperman has been re-appointed as the Pensions Minister.

Mr Opperman, the MP for Hexham, was first appointed parliamentary under-secretary of state at the Department for Work and Pensions on 14th June 2017.

In his role as Pensions Minister, the MP has urged pension schemes to sign up to a framework to reduce transfer times between defined contribution plans. He has also stated that the Government will consider legislation to make schemes simplify statements if they do not do it on their own.

The Minister has also been a firm backer of the pensions dashboard, which the Money and Pensions Service is taking on.

Following the general election, the backing of a Conservative Government under Boris Johnson is expected to put the Pension Scheme’s Bill back on the agenda.
