New £1 million end of life care fund

The Government has announced at the beginning of the month that £1 million of funding is being offered to end of life care providers in a new scheme, with an aim to improve the service provision.

For a limited time only, those who are providing care to people at the end of their lives can apply to receive a proportion of the Social Action End of Life Support Fund. This will give carers and support teams the ability to provide additional services, with an aim to enhance the social and emotional support given to end of life patients and their families.

This campaign is being led by Hospice UK, the nation’s leading charity for hospice care. They will be there to offer advice and support to applicants, as well as ensure the whole project is having the desired impact.

Funding and guidance is also being provided in order to develop a better range of services, including transport provision, animal care, and housework services such as gardening.

The main goal of the campaign is to encourage compassion and improve the emotional wellbeing of people who are living their final days. Issues that will be improved include the reduction of isolation, meeting emotional needs, and maintaining connections with the wider community for end of life patients and their families.

This project is open to care facilities and teams within hospices, care homes, UK registered charities, and public bodies.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm on Friday 7th November 2014 and successful applicants will have the funding provided until December 2015.
