Helm Godfrey launches will writing service

Leading wealth management and employee benefits adviser Helm Godfrey has launched a Will Writing Service as part of its wider financial and estate planning advice proposition.

Those using the service will be given an in-depth consultation with a legal expert specialising in Wills, estate and Inheritance Tax planning, Living Wills (also known as Advance Directives), and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

Living wills enable a person to determine what level of medical support they receive should they be injured or contract an illness that leaves them incapacitated and unable to communicate with carers. Lasting Powers of Attorney are necessary in circumstances where a person may be unable to use their mental or physical faculties to look after their affairs properly.

Following the consultation — which will explore areas including clients’ circumstances, wishes for their estate and its beneficiaries and, where relevant, Inheritance Tax planning — a Will is drawn up and sent to the client within two weeks, for signing and witnessing. Once correctly signed and witnessed, the Will becomes a legally binding document.

Graham Cross, Helm Godfrey Chief Executive, said: “Wills are vitally important. They make the administration of estates far simpler and more efficient, which ease stress and potentially reduces costs for a person’s family and loved ones at what can be a highly emotional and upsetting time.

“As well as minimising the effects of Inheritance Tax, many families wish to ensure the preservation of their wealth through several generations, making provision for children while considering events of divorce or bankruptcy and to provide for later life care, all of which can be assisted through a carefully drafted Will.”
