Charity fraud awareness week – 18 – 22 October 2021

Charity Fraud Awareness Week is coming up from 18th to 22nd October. Now in its sixth year, the week brings together everyone within the sector to talk about fraud, aiming to raise awareness of the an ever-evolving and increasing threat to everyone of online fraud and cyber crime.

Brought together by the Fraud Advisory Panel and the Charity Commission, the week will see charities and not-for-profit organisations come together to share experience and best practice when it comes to dealing with the rising challenge.

The website provides a range of tools to help organisations tackle fraud and cyber-crime, recognising that no firm– charitable or otherwise – can make itself completely immune to the threat.

Calling on all charities, the initiative encourages everyone to get involved in Charity Fraud Awareness Week. Throughout the week a series of online events are being held to provide charities and not-for-profits practical steps to protect themselves. Speakers include David Carter, Chair of UK Charities Against Fraud Group, Mark Jackson, Head of Counter Fraud at Christian Aid and The National Cyber Security Centre.

The week will also introduce a new fraud pledge that charities can sign to show their commitment to preventing fraud. Charities can get involved by

  • Signing up to the new fraud pledge
  • Joining one of the planned webinars
  • Running a staff fraud awareness session
  • Writing a blog for your intranet
  • Organising a staff quiz
  • Taking part in the social media campaign using #StopCharityFraud
